The Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts (originally the Pioneer Theater--Auditorium) opened to the public in 1968.  The auditorium is topped with a 140-foot diameter gold-anodized geodesic dome made up of 500 faceted panels, a design inspired by architect and visionary Richard Buckminster Fuller.  The Pioneer Center is home to the Reno Philharmonic, the Nevada Opera Association, the A.V.A. Ballet Theatre, and Reno Concerts.  The Center also offers programming by non-resident performing arts organizations.
